Jayne Olson
First Grade

Welcome to 1st Grade!
My name is Jayne Olson and I am a first grade teacher here at Dallas City Elementary School. I have been here for thirty-three years and love working with dedicated teachers and young children who are so eager to learn.
I am married to a great guy named Don, have two wonderful step-daughters, a beautiful grand-daughter, and two loyal companions ( Golden Retrievers). One of the dogs is nine years old and follows every command given to her and the other is a one year old puppy who gets into everything and likes to give hugs. My favorite things to do are reading, spending time with family, working on school projects, walking the dogs, and a little shopping.
First Grade Parents - Please try to read with your child every day for about 15-20 min. Research says that children who have had at least 200 books read to them before kindergarten have a greater chance of reading success for the rest of their lives. First graders need lots of practice to become more fluent readers. They need to try to read like they would talk.
Library - We go to the library at 1:30 on Tuesdays to have a book read to us and to get new books to take home for a week. Please have your child return their books on Monday or Tuesday so that they will be ready to get new ones on their library day. Thanks!
Spelling Test - Our next spelling test will be on Wed. Feb. 9th.
F.R.O.G. Binders - oftentimes have things of importance in them for parents. Please try to check them every day! Thank you.
