Physical Education
Dallas City Elementary has been my home away from home for the last 22 years. I began my teaching career for the Dallas City Community Unit District as a fourth grade teacher in 1989. I took a long term sub poition for a teacher on leave of absence. In the past twenty-two years I have taught at both the fourth and fifth grade levels. I also taught kindergarten and a multi-age classroom of kindergarten and first grade children. For the last four years I have been teaching Physical Education to students in Pre-K through eighth grade.
I graduated from Western Illinois University in 1971 with a comprehensive major in Physical Education. I taught at the St. Mary's Catholic Girl's School and Saints Peter and Paul Grade School in Nauvoo, Illinois for 3 years. For the next fifteen years I did substitute teaching in many school districts in Hancock County. It was during this time that I formatted the picture of the teacher I wanted to be. In 1990 I returned to Western Illinois University and received my General Education Degree. I love teaching and enjoy what I do each day.
This year I am working with Stephen Covey's 7 Habits working to incorporate them into my classroom. I am also working with the lower elementary teachers to build "The Leader in Me" concept giving students the power and stability to make positive life long decisions. Having received training on PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Systems) I hope to help implement a program for our students that promotes positive interventions for less than positive behaviors.
Besides my husband Tom and our dog Neiko, I have 3 children; Karie Mathena, Kelly (Matt) LeMaire and Kade (Stacie) Harl. I have 2 step daughters Deena Dunkin and Margo (Bob) Campbell. I have nine grandchildren; Josh and Lauren Campbell, Tanner and Colton Dunkin, Colin and Cadee LeMaire, Karlee Mathena and Keaton and Kennedy Harl. I am truly a "Blessed" person.
